Coloplast Conveen Optima External Condom Catheter-Sport Length

My husband had a radical prostatectomy about 3 weeks ago. After his Foley was removed, he was soaking 9-10 thick pads daily. After deciding this is BS, he decided to try external catheters with a leg bag. What we’ve learned: (1) Every type except the Conveen Optima tends to twist/kink and let urine back up, and we’ve tried multiple sizes (32, 35, 36–he measured 32.5). The 35 mm Conveen Optima is the ONLY self-adhesive catheter that let him get his penis seated as far into the catheter as it is supposed to (head all the way down). It stopped just short of the anti-reflux bellow. (2) The design of the anti-reflux bellows is masterful. They do not kink, collapse, or let urine pool against the head. All the urine goes into the bag immediately. (3) There is only one area for improvement: the adhesive could be stronger near the open end of the catheter. While it did not come off, about 1/4” of it rolled down and I felt no adhesive on it. That’s the only way that the Rochester-Bard brands are better. They stay put at the base of the shaft. This should definitely be a catheter to try. Order up in size unless you are an exact fit for one of their sizes. If in between, roomier is actually better. I think his health and confidence will both be better with Conveen Optima. I long for the day when he won’t need these things, but for now this is our top choice of about 4-5 tried.

This external catheter is comfortable and you can wear it longer than some of the other brands. Colorplast makes good products for those us that require their use.
